Individuals Work

Individual Work

Fern's WORK

Figure 32 - During the day the exhibition was busy and the pressure to complete designs was high. The quality of the design were to a professional standard and all mechanics were hidden. Flower placement on each design was unique. The strongest design was the cup design (center of image) as it was striking and the line of flower was neat. The weakest design was the ping pong design (far right of image) Time was not a strength during construction on the day, parts such as flower conditioning and wiring test tubes were abandoned. The space overall was filled enough to not look lost. Back wall was missing a design that could of been constructed.

 Theresa's WORK

Figure 33, Theresa work was very colourful, this was a strength to her collection of designs. Her theme was recycling so both natural and man made materials were manipulated in her designs. Her strength were the series of bike wheels, these hung at different levels that gave a clear line. Though the back wall imagery was distracting the design stood out. The design on the back wall was Theresa weakness. The design looked unfinished and would of suited more flowers. The layout Theresa incorporated works and none of the designs look lost.

Charlotte's WORK

Figure 34, Charlotte incorporated many techniques within her work such as glueing and wiring. The tea pot design used both hanging and a prop. The use of cards added a novel idea and added a fun aspect overall. The positioning of her designs could of been altered as they all look cramped. The key hole may of looked better on an angle. The use of colour was perfect for the conditions of the room, orange was an excellent choice.

Sam's WORK
Figure 35, Sams work incorporated the use of various materials. The idea of egg cartons is an innovative idea and difficult to construct as the material is not very pliable. To leave the stems on the Gerbera adds movement to the frames that was needed, these were also test tubes attached so the flowers could drink. Weaknesses to Sam's work was the simplicity of the mannequin. The shape could of been more radical and more flowers could of been used. The Cake did not look finished and the line of flower was lost.

Gemma's Work

Figure 36, Gemma's work was brightened up by the use of yellow Gerberas, her materials chosen were dark but the outlines were defined enough to not be lost. The textures within the dress contrasted to the vinyls and added an exciting depth. More colour could of been used to compliment the yellow. The design on the bar area could of been larger and displayed on a prop to become more stable.

Client

Malcolm Scott (client) was very happy with the designs. Feedback was that the displays were big enough for the room and they grabbed the viewers attention

Visitors

Visitors were low due to the fact that promotional materials were not sent out. Another issue was the college also had an educational evening that the majority of our visitors were invited to first.

Overall the final exhibition was a success the designs had a presence to the room and each visitor was impressed by the groups design. Group management was a difficult process and a lot of lesson have been learnt for the future, such as time management and clear deadlines. The group itself had major issues outside that none of us took on board.

Run up to Final Exhibition

Run up to Final Exhibition

No more minutes were recorded

Invites
The issue was lack of communication I believed that my peers were not supporting my tasks strong enough. This left me in the dark of who was printing and cutting the invites out. Certain peers I believed were not taking enough responsibility towards the end and unfortunately the invites were never sent out.
A lot of effort and pressure was put on my role but perhaps the lack of knowledge of the rest of the group was the weakness to this task.

T-shirts
The t-shirts were never printed on. This task was a last minute decision by a group member and did not sufficiently put her ideas across. Majority of the group did not bring a t shirt in.

Logistics
Transport was arranged for design in the morning of the exhibition. Space was limited on the transport arranged so emergency transport was brought in that cost the group money. The majority of the group did not think about the transportation and were not a part of delivering. Me and another member took responsibility of everyone’s designs and the rest met at the location. This I believe showed an inability to hold responsibility.

Day of the Exhibition
The day of the exhibition went smoothly apart from the presentation. A member of the group role was to build a presentation to show at the exhibition. Invitations
In this session I started to design the invitations. This part of the group management should have been done earlier to ensure invites would be posted out to guests. 1st draft was completed but no one had time to proof read so this invite could not be completed.  I had further problems as this task would be prolonged further as I was absent the week after.
Unfortunately, the USB the presentation was saved to had snapped. I then was held responsible for the presentation as I was the only one who fixed the issue of saving the presentation on to my stick.

This really impacted my time during the placement of flowers as the presentation took ages to load whilst the builder of the presentation took no notice.

Session Thirteen

Session Thirteen – Absent

A major problem of the group was communication. Being ascent again in the final stages was not brilliant. Out of hours I finished of the invites and poster. I then messaged the group to see if they wanted any promotional materials sent to them for printing but had no reply. If communication was better time would not have been as pressured.

Figure 32, Completed Poster. This was to be used for the client and any perspective location for promotional material.

Session Eleven

Session Eleven – Absent

During this week the preparation for invites started, this was a productive step and could mean the invites could be done the week after. A lot of costing were complete for the invitations such as the card and ribbon a peer bought.

A lot of tasks such as finalising invites, contacting client for confirmation but these tasks by the chosen peer were not complete due to outside problems so she had to leave.

An action that was never informed to me was to send images to the peer that was preparing the PowerPoint. This was never brought up till last minute and i was frustrated.

Session Ten

Session Ten

At this point during group management the time management triangle emphasised more on quality, the overall finish of the website was impressive but time was running out for other tasks.

Invitations
This session the invites were critiqued by the group to ensure all the information was supplied at best ability. This was done but no final check had been complete.

T-shirts (see figure, 30)

A member of the group suggested that wearing matching t shirts would make the day more professional. This was ignored mostly because tasks already planned had not be completed. We were told to buy a plain black polo so the member of the group could print on them using transfer paper. Having had experience with paper transfer the logo decided would not look contrasting enough, but this task continued to go on (see figure,31). A massive problem of why this was not completed was the logo i had developed was never given to the peer in charge of the t -shirts, this was because i was never available due to being absent.

Session Nine - 8th February 2016

Session Nine

Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work in hand. The suns rays do not burn until brought to a focus - Covey, S (No Date)

Work set for me was becoming a lot compared to other peers. My Emails from initial start about the venues and communication were still not sent, this was a negative reflection on me and lack of communication, this prevented a task to be completed. I really did not appreciate being a part of this task as I had enough to work on.

Invitations

In this session I started to design the invitations. This part of the group management should have been done earlier to ensure invites would be posted out to guests. 1st draft was completed but no one had time to proof read so this invite could not be completed.  I had further problems as this task would be prolonged further as I was absent the week after (see figure 28-29).

Session Six to Eight

Session Six to Eight

Font decisions were made to be COURIER NEW. This style was accepted by the group. It was chosen as its easy to read and fashionable.

Logo

The development of the logo became long winded as my visions became too technical for my abilities. Once the original logo was completed individual logos were then completed with there colour (see figure 19-20).

Figure 19 Original design

Figure 20, This was developed firstly, the group did not the black font. Flower looked tacky and could be improved on
Figure 21, This was developed, incorporating the theme collage this was bold enough and fitted the brief of the group.
Figure 22, Personalised logos were completed, as a group we decided to build individual ones with their chosen colour, the task was complete but these logo has no presence on marketing promotion (see figure 23-26).

Website was currently constructed, I had no input for this as my workload was enough to concentrate on. The other tasks such as sponsorship, guest lists were someone else responsibility. As a member of the group I did not believe that tasks were being completed. Simple jobs such as an invitation list did not exist currently. This in my opinion should have been one of the first tasks completed, but as the pressure were getting high with other commitments they were left. The quality of the show was most important but the time building an invite list and sending was lost.
